Trudy Maguire

Assistant Lecturer Musicianship & Academic Studies

Trudy Maguire MA, AdvDip, ARIAM, BA (Hons) is an instrumentalist, singer and composer from Meath who has enjoyed working as a music educator leading instrumental ensembles, choirs and teaching private lessons in the Leinster area. She has extensive experience conducting and leading community based choirs of all ages including the Songbirds, the Portmarnock Singers, the Forget-me-nots and the Clontarf Children’s Choir. Under Trudy’s direction, the K&S Accordion Orchestra won titles at national level and performed regularly in the community. She is also a founding member of the Irish Accordion Orchestra - an adult late-starter orchestra based in Cavan. She is an active member of the Irish Accordion Association (IAA) who organise the annual Accordion All-Ireland Competition and host orchestral and conducting masterclass events with the orchestras. 

Alongside her teaching posts Trudy sang competitively as part of the choral scene in Dublin performing in international competitions in Cork, Derry and Baden with the award-winning choir the Laetare Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Róisín Blunnie and Lorica Chamber Choir under the direction of Michael T. Dawson. She also played competitively with Accora Accordion Orchestra, ranking second in the World Music Festival in Innsbruck in May 2025. 

Trudy completed a diploma in music education at the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét where she achieved first class honours. Returning to Ireland she part-time lectured in keyboard & aural skills and conducting at DCU for two consecutive years following her choral masters studies. She is now looking forward to her new role as assistant lecturer at MTU Cork School of Music.
