CIT’s Innovation Week kicks off today with a packed schedule of events and activities promoting entrepreneurship and innovation. The annual event, which is now in it’s 6th year, consists of a week-long series of seminars, exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations taking place across CIT’s five campus locations.
Here in CIT CSM, a launch will be held today for the new website “From Potential to Performance”. The idea for the website first emerged in 2009 during a conference in the Sibelius Academy, Finland where a small group of music lecturers and performers from the Netherlands, Ireland and Australia were invited to come together to share and discuss teaching and research work. The group had a common interest in practical strategies for musicians, such as tips for practicing, goal setting strategies, mind training techniques, optimal experience ideas and sports coaching concepts. They arranged to meet over several years at Symposia at their respective Universities and the website represents the culmination of the group's work during this time.
Tomorrow, Tuesday 7th March, we will hold a presentation and workshop on "Cultural Entrepreneurship and the Business of Music" followed by an open discussion. The speakers will include Gerard O’Donovan, Head of Faculty of Business and Humanities, CIT and Professor Andreas Sønning from the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. Gerard and Andreas are strong advocates of business education for students of the arts and have been involved for many years in championing cultural entrepreneurship through international intensive programmes, where creative and performing arts students collaborate with business students in a dynamic learning environment. The presentation will look at the opportunities and challenges facing new music graduates and will explore different ways to create work and employment in the creative and cultural industries
These events are free and open to the public.
