Bands
Wind, brass and percussion players normally progress through the Elementary Band, Intermediate Band and Symphonic Wind Band, and those interested can also apply to take part in the Youth Jazz Ensemble and the Jazz Big Band. External applicants are welcome in all groups and will be accommodated if vacancies allow (please contact the Head of Orchestral Studies).
Choirs
Junior Children's Chorus
The Junior Children’s Chorus caters for the 7- to 11-year old age group taking their first steps, learning to breathe well and sing true in pitch on a range of attractive songs. Membership of the choir is open to all children who enjoy singing including external applicants. No previous experience is required. All applicants will be auditioned.
Senior Children's Chorus
The Senior Children’s Chorus (12- to 17-years old) follows from the Junior Children’s Chorus and gives children a thorough foundation in the basics of a healthy and free use of the voice, as well as an introduction to 2-part singing, on a wide repertoire of lively and enjoyable songs. All applicants will be auditioned.
Youth Vocal Ensemble
The MTU CSM Youth Vocal Ensemble caters to ambitious young singers aged 15 yrs plus, covering multi-part repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day. All applicants will be auditioned in September each year. Music reading skills are desirable.
Fleischmann Choir
The Fleischmann Choir is a 130-piece choral ensemble, performing major works and large-scale repertory for mixed-voice choir and orchestra to the highest possible standards. For further information and details on how to join, visit the choir's website.
Union Choir
Union is a mixed-voice chorus for those with an interest in musical theatre. This group meets once weekly. No previous experience is necessary. For more information, click here.
Drama
Our drama groups offer students the opportunity to work as part of an ensemble and help develop personal confidence in a theatrical setting.
Beginner’s Drama (3rd & 4th Class)
An introduction to dynamic stagecraft, storytelling, and confidence-building for young performers taking their first steps in theatre.
Beginner’s Drama (5th & 6th Class)
A creative space for older primary school students to develop fundamental acting skills, character work, and collaborative ensemble performance.
Intermediate Drama
Tailored for 1st and 2nd-year secondary students to refine their dramatic technique, script work, and stage presence in an engaging environment.
Youth Theatre
An advanced weekly ensemble for 3rd-year students and up, focused on creating high-calibre productions and showcasing the next generation of young theatre artists. Past shows have included Romeo and Juliet, The Bullying Prevention Circle, Anne Frank: Lockedin, Wide Awake, A Christmas Carol, September 2011, Pride and Prejudice, Julius Caesar and many more.
Orchestras
String students of the School will be allocated to an appropriate orchestra depending on their level of proficiency. Places in the Preparatory, Junior and Intermediate Orchestras are limited to students who are enrolled in the CSM. Students who are enrolled in Musicianship but who take instrumental lessons outside of the School will be asked to audition. Senior and CSM Symphony Orchestra applicants may be asked to audition and will only be accepted if vacancies exist (please contact the Head of Orchestral Studies).
