TY Programme at MTU Cork School of Music
The Transition Year Programmes at MTU Cork School of Music give students from across the country a unique opportunity to explore professional practice in the creative and performing arts. Students experience life at MTU Cork School of Music and work alongside peers on professional-standard performances.
Important Information Before You Apply
Application Window: October 1st – October 31st, 2026
Allocation Policy: Programmes run subject to minimum enrollment. If a group is oversubscribed, places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis upon receipt of a completed application.

Symphony Orchestra and Music & Technology: €100
All Other Strands: €50

Applying for Multiple Groups or Strands
Due to high demand, we deliver many of our programmes across two separate sessions (Group 1 and Group 2).
Applying for Both Groups in the Same Strand: You may apply for both Group 1 and Group 2, but you will only be offered one place within that strand. Please indicate your group preference in Classter.
Exception: If you wish to attend the Popular Music strand twice on different instruments (e.g., Group 1 on Electric Guitar and Group 2 on Vocals), you can be offered places in both groups.
Applying Across Different Strands: If you apply for multiple strands that take place on different dates, you can be offered places in all. However, if you apply for different strands running on the same dates, please rank them in order of preference in Classter, as you can only attend one.

How to Apply
Applications are managed online through Classter, our student database system.
- Create an Account: First-time users must set up a Classter profile before applying.
- Submit Your Application: The contact details provided in your Classter profile will be used for all course communications.

Other Key Dates
November 13th - Placement offers will be sent out via Classter from this date.
November 27th - Students will need to accept their placement offer on Classter by November 27th.
December 11th - Once students have accepted, our fees office will issue an invoice on Claster. This will need to be paid by December 11th to secure placements.
