About
Creative Arts Practice Online (CAPO) is an initiative aimed at examining the ways in which digital tools and resources can be used to enhance current creative arts practice. Led by Tom Doyle, a lecturer in conducting at CIT Cork School of Music, work is currently in progress on two specific projects:
- CAPO-I: Community Choirs and Conductors
- CAPO-II: Wind Bands (in association with Cork Philharmonic Winds)
CAPO is a TLU Learning Community funded project sponsored by the Teaching and Learning Unit, Office of the Registrar and VP for Academic Affairs in partnership with the Department of Musicianship and Academic Studies at CIT Cork School of Music.
CAPO-I: Community Choirs and Conductors
As we slowly begin to reassemble the art of communal music-making, conductors and musical directors are being forced to consider the relevance of their current practice in a global pandemic environment. Even though technology cannot yet provide a working substitute for live physical music-making, there are possibilities for its inclusion that might not only address past problems but improve accessibility and engagement in the future.
CAPO-I is currently made up of three strands:
- a series of conducting masterclasses
- the establishment of an online reading group for conductors
- the building of a localised digital community
