XaRt 2023 - Call for Works
Open Call for Immersive Technologies Artworks contributing to ‘XaRt’ – an exhibition of artworks using Immersive Technologies
The NExIS project team, acting on behalf of Munster Technological University (MTU) and through the MTU Arts Office CREATE Le Chéile fund, is excited to announce a call for artworks exploring the creative potential of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), extended reality (XR), and other related technologies. Proposals are invited from artists residing in Ireland.
Our aim is to commission three artworks that will explore the possibilities of immersive technologies for artistic expression. We are looking for works which will leverage the potential of immersive technologies as to present artistic works in new ways, such as where physical artistic works can be expanded to allow audiences to engage with richer levels of interaction and visual impact through immersive technologies.
The commissioned artworks will be presented as part of a physical and virtual exhibition and forum that will be hosted at MTU’s campuses as part of an XaRt Exhibition. These exhibitions will be accompanied by a series of talks and a networking event, where the themes and technologies used in the artworks will be discussed, giving opportunity to explore the works in a social setting.
Extended reality experiences, such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), or mixed reality (MR), offer artists new and exciting opportunities for creative expression. We are interested in artworks, which can be created, and which can be digitally transformed with extended technologies and tools. We encourage artists to experiment with different technologies, such as spatial audio, motion tracking, 3D scanning and haptic feedback, to create immersive and engaging experiences.
