Dr Gavan Ring studied at the Schola Cantorum at St Finian’s College Mullingar before reading music and education at St Patrick’s College Drumcondra/Dublin City University. An alumnus of the National Opera Studio in London, Gavan pursued postgraduate studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music graduating with both Masters and Doctoral qualifications. Gavan is a published musicologist in academic journals and periodicals such as Studia Hibernica, Sound Post Magazine and Early Times Magazine specialising in research areas such as Irish opera, operatic/vocal performance and music in early childhood education. Gavan’s ground-breaking doctoral research on Robert O’Dwyer’s Irish language opera Eithne led to the work’s first performance in 107 years and a recording with Irish National Opera on the RTÉ Lyric FM label.

Gavan is one of Ireland’s most distinguished opera singers with solo concert highlights including performances with the London Symphony Orchestra at the BBC Proms under Sir Simon Rattle and the Munich Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Prinzregententheater under Keri Lynn-Wilson. Recital highlights include frequent appearances at Wigmore Hall, the Oxford International Song Festival and Ludlow English Song Festival. Opera highlights include leading roles at Glyndebourne, Irish National Opera, La Monnaie, Opéra Royal de Versailles, Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Opera North, Garsington Opera, Wexford Festival Opera and Opera Holland Park.
