After a career as a law lecturer, Ryan became a professional singer in 2008. Since then, he studied with former CSM singing teacher, Robert Beare, Dr Veronica Dunne at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and attained a Master's degree in Music from the Conservatory of Music and Drama, DIT, under Stephen Wallace. He is also a Licentiate of RockSchool London.
He has sung as a soloist at numerous high-profile venues in Ireland, including the National Concert Hall, Thomond Park, Dublin Castle, Cork City Hall, Ulster Hall, Kilruddery House, Mansion House, etc. He has performed for the President of Ireland, Ministers of State, Ambassadors, inaugural voyages of cruise ships, major corporate events and Arts Festivals. He was also a guest vocalist on the BBC 1 prime-time show, “I Can See Your Voice.”
In recent years he had a role in the award-winning and 5-star reviewed “Der Vampyr” at the Everyman Palace Theatre, as Gaston in "La Traviata" and Remendado in "Carmen" at Cork Opera House, appeared as the principal Danilo in “The Merry Widow” at the National Concert Hall, performed as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Mass in C, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Vivaldi’s Magnificat and Stainer’s Crucifixion. From 2016 to 2022, he was Programme Director for the Lord Mayor's Gala Christmas Concert at Cork City Hall.
