John Donegan, UK based and originally from Cork, is a modern jazz pianist and composer. His music has been featured on the BBC, Jazz FM, RTE and independent radio stations in UK and Ireland. He has worked with a variety of UK, Irish and International artists, including Art Blakey, Art Farmer, Barney Kessel and Greg Abate. John’s major influences have been the likes of Bill Evans, Wynton Kelly, Bud Powell and Keith Jarrett. He has also performed in France, Spain and Portugal and at Birdland in New York. John more recently composed a suite of 21 contemporary pieces which have been released as 2 CDs, Siamsa Vol 1 & 2. Recent review in Musicians Union Magazine “An intriguing combination of classic bebop laced with Irish folk melody, this album from pianist John and his saxophonist friend Tommaso Starace is full of sublime lyrical moments” He has just released a new Sextet album, A Kite for Kate, dedicated to his youngest daughter. It comprises of totally original pieces and has already been featured on RTE, BBC, K 107FM and various other independent radio stations.

Mozart adds his own voice to Bach’s music, paying tribute to the master of fugue while Australian Brett Dean’s Short Stories, five evocative abstract miniatures, serve as interludes in between. Mahler’s great Tenth Symphony traverses an unremitting arc of emotion. Its atmospheric Adagio, an immensely spacious and gloriously scored cadence, closes an ethereal programme.

Featuring the Chorus of Cork Operatic Society with a star-studded lineup including Majella Cullagh, Molly Lynch, Kelley Petcu, Michael Sands, Niamh O'Sullivan and Ryan Morgan with conductor Conor Palliser, guest conductor John O'Brien and pianist Tom Doyle, this concert will celebrate the society's place in Cork's opera-making tradition over the last ten years and marks the start of another chapter for this voluntary society dedicated to opera performance in Cork City. The Mountain View High School Chamber Orchestra performs a wide variety of repertoire ranging from Baroque to Contemporary. The musicians are all students from Mountain View High School, situated in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. The school is a four-year comprehensive high school with a longstanding reputation for academic excellence as well as a tradition of strong support for the performing arts. Tonight’s concert at the Curtis Auditorium in Cork will be part of their 1 week concert tour through Ireland. Under the direction of Jason Kneebone the orchestra will perform a variety of works such as a special commissioned piece by David Close – which will be performed together with the Cork ETB Youth Choir (Musical Conductor) Anne Dunphy.
